What do our TRAVELLERS have to say?
We have a bunch of feedback from our travellers, the good, the bad and so far only a little ugly :)
*This section is a work in progress as we dig out feedback from the past
and get permission from our adventurers to display it on-line..

| Karen 'Kaz' Purre [Guide] Canyon Country 2008 |
Where do I start? Firstly, I want to thank each and every one of you for the opportunity of being your tour guide/manager. I could not have asked for a better group of people to lead through one of my favorite regions in the world! You made each day so enjoyable and I looked forward to getting up each morning to start a new adventure (which is quite a fete in and of itself - not being a natural morning person!) We shared in the awe and joy of the natural wonders we visited and you made it all the more special by appreciating what you were seeing and the roads you were traveling.
Secondly, whether it makes any difference to you or not, I want to compliment and applaud the way the group came together as a pack. You cannot imagine how grateful I was for the cooperation and attention to "road rules" - each one of you contributed to the pack and hopefully learned some new road skills along the way - which would be applicable wherever you ride in the world. The sheer joy of riding "in the zone" is unmatched - well, ok, maybe there are a few more things in life that are more enjoyable , but not many!
And last but not least, the highest regards to all of you in terms of creating a funny, caring (I know guys don't like that word but too bad!), mellow, forgiving (!), and ultra friendly group. If you think about taking a random group of people from all over the world, with different cultures, values, etc.and throw them altogether in a tour, it is rare (and I speak from experience) that a group creates such a warm (another word guys don't like) and truly friendly and fun atmosphere. I think I can say that lasting friendships were created and personally, I can't wait until we create a reunion ride. I thank all of you for a most wonderful enjoyable tour. |

Ken, Just a short text to let you know just how totally awesome the trip was.
I expected the trip of a lifetime but it far exceeded even that!
Kaz (the guide) is superb and I can not praise her enough.
More to say but I'll wait until I can email. Death Valley today.. Ian
Email Feedback:
Short and sweet: We bonded, we rode and we grew as people AND it was more fun than we thought possible.
What more can you ask of life?
And you guys set that up... So there :-)
Email Feedback (Part 2, the Extended version)
Hi Ken & Kaz (sounds like a double act doesn't it?)
Well, I've given this some thought - and being a Boff (as Dale would put it) that does mean some considerable thought. I've tried and tried, but try as I might I just cannot come up with any major improvement that I would suggest - which is unusual for me. Usually there is something I can 'winge' about - indeed the Ozzy's and I were practising this very art in the Mai Tai bar, before we set off, and we had it off pretty well I must say.
So... bringing those practised skills to bear on the trip it should surely be easy to find something - but I just can't. :-(
Let me go throught your headings:
Bikes: Fantastic - I got a Street Bob which was purrrrrfect. It's what I ride - so I knew the seat/position would be ok for my back. Don't know if you planned it that way but what a coincidence if you did not. Eagle Rider? Efficient, effective and straightforward. Nice people too. No more you could ask really.
One thought: Marty and I did not have any contact number or breakdown instructions in our Eagle Rider info (so we discovered in Death Valley) - presumably because we set out as part of a group and I'm guessing Kaz had the details at that point. But, of course, we were on our own by then. It was not an issue (as we didn't break down) - but something to watch for for others maybe?
Tour: Now you're just fishing for complements here. You already know my thoughts. Breathtaking, gobsmacking, awe inspiring, mind blowing! Even my extensive tour of Tropic was interesting :-) Oops - did I really say that? Ah well, you really should have persuaded me to accept that beer, Kaz...! Seriously the tour was the best.
Organisation: Personally I'm not sure it could have been better. It had just the right level of independence and structure built into it for me. You're brave, Kaz, operating it that way - but it was really worth it. It was fabulous riding in the group, especially on the later days - it was sometimes good to follow the truck (especially when looking for those invisible buffalo) - it was great, just occasionally, to ride alone (I'm thinking the winding road up through Escalante and in Death Valley in the early morning) - it was wonderful riding alongside your mate - it was also good to know that, if anything happened then Kaz would come on by and rescue us! So, no, I cannot offer improvement suggestions there.
I also enjoyed the learning curve: different approach to navigation in such terraine, mileages, roads (NSEW) and fuel stations.... great - and the Moki Dugway, and other riding skills (and I thought I was experienced)! And I think we all enjoyed making mistakes - and learning from them - and then laughing together at them.
How to improve: There's only one item I would seriously raise, and I'm reluctant to raise it because the trip is such a 'blemish free' memory that I'm not sure I want to spoil it. So I'll keep it brief: Imperial Palace, not an excellent choice, but you can not win everytime. The Stratosphere more than made up for it in my opinion. It really was not a major issue - but just about worth mentioning.
So what else: You could include free flights and more time off work? That would increase your numbers.
Con's?: None really. It was sometimes hard for us (climate/headwind etc.) but, boy, did we enjoy it. Dropping into bed at night with a satisfied worn-out kind of a feeling, having been in the outside all day etc etc. If only it could begin again tomorrow.
Anything else?: You bet.
- Kaz-. (this is to you, Ken)
I know you (Ken/Pascale/Team) work your little butts off getting all this stuff sorted out but GIVE KAZ A RAISE! And if it's not your responsibility then tell whoever it is. Whatever she's paid it's not enough. In addition to taking control (in a gentle - this is a group decision - kind of a way) of us unruly lot - she was working 24/7. She must be exhausted at the end of a tour. Enthusiasm, skill, knowledge. Brilliant. And what a 'tarp designer'. Sip agreed that her 'tarp design' was truly the best he had seen.
Oh - call her "Mom" - she loves it (it is actually a term of affection)!
Thanks to you all - from the bottom of my warm, forgiving and caring heart (terms that Kaz likes) - it was "a blast". It changed me. |

Just back in the office 10 minutes ago. I know you have already had feedback from Ian on the trip and he will give you the comprehensive reports! I'd just like to say it was absolutely fantastic!! What a trip!! I cannot believe it is over, it was certainly the trip of a lifetime.
Kaz was brilliant and very very professional also great company and a good friend.
Have to go now but we'll certainly give you good publicity for the trip. Carlos and Sip both say the same...it was special! Slaynt, Martin
P.S thanks for remembering my birthday, pity you couldn't share the hangover the next day!!!! |

Carlos brings up a lot of good TIPS and POINTS in this Feedback!
Hi Ken, as you probably already got the feedback from KAZ it was a great ride, a great adventure and a pleasure to meet and share it with the other people of the team. Some feedback,
From the organizational side everything was ok. I have really appreciated Kaz approach of taking care of us, organizing lunch and diners but without obligation.
As I suggested to Kaz the free day in Moab could have started one hour earlier to allow for more visiting time as the area has so much things to see and riding along the Colorado river was very very nice.
On the 'bike' itself
For people not used to ride Harleys it can be really explained, as Martin and your self did that even coming from a 'small' 600 it is no problem to go for a low ride one or dynaglide
It can also be explained that they are very comfortable and the daily riding distance is not a problem at all.
For the equipment I will suggest a few explanations,
If the client rents a bike without wind screen ensure he knows what he does and that he has already ride one like that at 75 m/h with the same helmet he plan to use on the tour.
If he plans to come without any equipment at all, it may be worthwhile to explain that
The helmets provided are harley ones, no visor, no ear protection, no sun protection
In the desert your eyes get dry, so if you plan to ride with an helmet without visor, buy ALREADY at eaglerider the RIGHT glasses, the ones with the foam on the side of the glass to stop wind circulation
Without visor, you get flies, small stones and drops of rain on your face and it may hurt, especially rain.
When you ride to the hotel after sunset without a visor, you need glasses to protect your eyes from cold air . and sun glasses do not provide at that moment the best vision possibilities to avoid potential wildlife.
If you are sensible to noise and plan to ride with an harley helmet, buy ear plugs . or keep the ones from the a/c.
Also explain that you are going to cross mountains at 9800 feet and that impacts seriously the temperature on the down side, so as Kaz did explain us the layer clothing approach is the solution and you need summer gloves and some rain/cold protection jacket for the morning ride.
I hope it could help other people who may come as unprepared as . me . although as you have read above it just took 2 trials with sun glasses to get the correct ones, thanks to Sip, and find back the ear plugs!
Kind regards, Carlos

Mate when are you running another Canyon Country tour, I took the risk of doing the trip without the wife, and being such a good trip she now wants a piece of the action.
I know its all been said before but what an awesome ride, the scenery was mind blowing the choice of route perfect, just enough long road and lots of twisties for good measure. Kaz our tour guide was great, organized, capable and will have a beer with you at the end of a long day, all in all she was good fun to have around. I was very impressed with the hire bikes, all where presented in excellent condition and ran faultlessly over the entire trip. I was a last minute ring in for the trip, and it was possibly the best split second decision I have made. I have attached a pic of the open road that is always a joy. I will recommend your company to others and will almost certainly use you in the future, ( once a year sounds pretty good to me) Cheers Dale Tiller |

| What a trip !!! We had an absolute carnival - from the time we got picked up from the airport to the time we returned the bikes was nothing but pure joy. We made friends and experienced things we will never forget. Kaz was sensational. Her local knowledge about everything kept us enthralled. We just cant stop thinking about the tour. We want to do it again, maybe a Reunion Tour. Thanks again and we will keep in touch. |

Hello Ken & Pascale ,
I just don't know where to begin ! , what a great trip ,
Ken , everything you organized for us was 100 % perfect , we picked up the 2007 model Electra Glides from Eagle Rider early on the Sunday morning as I wanted to spend some extra time at the Hoover Dam , what an Engineering masterpiece , could we ever build something like that again?.
The Grand Canyon was incredible the colours in the rock formations have to be seen , I don't think you could ever describe them to anyone . We did the Helicopter flight over & it was worth every cent . From there we went to Outman's , stopped several times along Route 66 & on to Kingman for the evening where we ran into the French edition of "Westforever " who must have been doing a similar ride .
We stuck fairly close to the planned itinery for most of the trip , when we arrived at Moab I just didn't want to leave , what a beautiful place thank you for arranging 2 days there , you were right , it is a fabulous spot . We both thoroughly enjoyed the tour, one advantage that we had over a larger group is that we did plan on getting to some destinations earlier in the day to have a little " Drinking time " we found ripper pubs at Kingman & Moab .
Aren't their roads sensational , Eagle Rider told us the Police leave you alone at under 10 mph over the posted speed limit , the last day from Tropic we were cruising at 85 mph ( just 3000 rpm on the 6 speeders ) & cars were passing us ! . We were so lucky with the weather too , between 70 & 85 Deg. for the 7 days.
I am happy to be a reference for you if you have any potential starters who are a little hesitant about riding on the " Wrong " side of the road or worried about the total cost of the trip.
Many thanks again from both Andrew & myself , we had a ball & cannot recommend more highly your company ,
Best Regards , Brian . |

I want to thank my fellow travellers for a unique and adventuresome trip.
We had a phenomenal time exploring the byways and highways of the US and I don't think any of us will forget the experience in our lifetimes.
As an added bonus, we share new friendships and look forward to the time when we can reunite to create new memories." |

Rental: I found Eagle Rider rentals a pleasure to deal with, Goldie and I met with Matt in Denver the day before we were supposed to pick up our bikes, sorted things out quickly regarding the bikes (I got my Wide Glide, Sean got his Electra and Goldie was happy with his bike switch) and went back late afternoon after Kaz had arrived, filled out the paperwork and we were away, which meant no hanging around the next morning.
My bike was only a year old (2007 model), performed well the whole journey and the drop off in Chicago was again easy and painless.
Overall, I would do Eagle Rider rentals again without hesitation – much easier than what I had heard about the Harley fly / ride bikes.
Accommodation: Did we pick the right hotels? Should we change things? The hotels were good, obviously being Best Western customers you got discounted rates and so you should primarily using the one hotel group throughout the tour. Some of the hotels were a little tired (older buildings) but in all cases they were clean.
In general the hotel location was good at each stop, located close to eateries, sights and amenities etc.
Not all the hotels had their own laundry, which we had to work around occasionally, given that we would accumulate 3 or 4 days washing before it had to be done. The last night’s hotel was too far from the city and the airport, but this is probably because you were thinking off the Midway Airport.
Route: A couple of the days were a little long, but on this occasion we were constricted by time between Sturgis and the celebrations in Milwaukee, it was certainly not the end of the world.
One day of over 460 miles stretched out a little and then one day we spent on the Blue Ridge Parkway, meant slow travel and we did not get into Roanoke until after dark, which made the last hour of riding on the interstate between trucks, taking of our sunnies on the run etc a little difficult for all of us – obviously if we had more time a couple of extra stops could have been achieved.
In general the roads were great and different and some days we had to spend them on the interstates simply to get from A to B.
We learnt a lot about the places we went through, rode around or stopped at by travelling close to our tour guide, Kaz was a mine of information – more particularly, I enjoyed being led into the larger cities, which could have been uncomfortable to navigate into without Kaz.
Guide: In my experience the guide (Kaz) was great from minute one.
Kaz would seek consensus from the group where necessary, whilst offering her views as observations or suggestions – would I tour again with Kaz if (or when) I do another tour in USA – definitely yes.
General: As you already know, I had a remarkably enjoyable time on the tour, with (in most cases) people that I found it a pleasure to be with and with whom I would have no hesitation in touring again.
I spoke with people doing other tours, most notably a group in Milwaukee doing a tour with 'Another Tour Operator*' who were not that happy with their own tour – this was because the level of tour that they had signed up and paid for was not at the level we signed up for with Westforever.
Hence, I would recommend the Westforever tours to anyone contemplating a riding tour around the USA.

Rentals:
The bike never missed a beat and was exactly as we expected regarding the comfort and fit out. It was easy to collect and apart from taking a wrong turning when returning it, the actual handover was smooth and the guys really a pleasure to deal with.
Hotels:
Clean, tidy and there was not a single gripe from us. Basically, they were what we expected and the main priority for us was that the bikes were safe; that we were all together. They were well situated and it was easy to find somewhere for dinner at the end of the day. Some supplied breakfast from cooked to continental and that was good also.
Route:
This is a hard one as the US is such a big country to cover even in the time we were there. Most of the time, the rides were ok, length wise and Kaz did her best to try and get us to experience the real US rather than just spending countless boring hours on the interstate which was really fantastic. However, there were two days where we did huge mileage back to back, arriving at a hotel in the late evening. That was really hard as we would have all liked to have a walk around and not have just slept there for the night. We saw alot of parks and wildlife but after the furst few encounters or spendign the morning doing the mountains, we were happpy to get to the interstate and make the hotel in daylight when we had time for a swim; a chance to do the washing and jsut socialise with the group. Also, we were not constrained at any time and could have made our way on our own, at times, if we wanted to. One couple did this and that was their choice for whatever reason.
Guide:
Kaz had the patience of Job and if she hadn't, I am sure that one couple would have ruined it for all. It was her first time in some of the areas around the country we toured and she did well to navigate us wherever we were going and to find all the intersting places to check out. Kaz was great keeping us in line with the right side of the road as it takes some getting used to - however, I would suggest a google print out at the beginnning of each day so that you could have a couple of options to get where you were going - this way it wouldn't be so scary when you get lost either or perhaps a GPS per bike might be a thought.
General Comments:
I think that most of us enjoyed the ride immensely but could have missed some of the parks in the later part of the trip as we were getting tired. Our main aim with the bigger cities was to get to our destination and not be sitting in peak traffic as that was not fun. It was imperative for us to stop and make us of the way stops that Kaz found for us due to the heat, the need to drink and get off the bike to rest the butt. I would have liked more time in the bigger areas as there was so much to see but also appreciate that everyone is different in their interests. We saw more of the mainstream US than most would have and riding off interstate provided us with awesome experiences and memories. We would do the trip again in a heart beat however, would prefer to start in New Orleans and ride up the coast to experience areas we haven't been to, then skip NY and go to Pittsburgh; Niagara; Chicago; Milauwaukee then into Canada to Vancouver, Toronto and Quebec. In fact, will definitely do that trip for the 110th, if not sooner as it would be great to see Masschustets (sorry for spelling) New England; Boston etc etc.
We have no problem being a reference for the trip and have already meet many who will do the 110th
Warm regards and thanks for the fantastic planning of a lifetime trip
Regards

Rental: Bikes were spot on, was a little concerned when i picked up the bike as im not used to such a dressy/faired bike. worries soon passed as the miles were eaten up in total comfort. Jo was a happy Bunny with the back seat as she'd got a back rest (it bloody spoilt her).
Accommodation: All the accomodation was great, (nuff said)
Route: The riding was great also, the routes were breathtaking, some of the days seemed long and seemed to be we were getting to one place going to bed after a meal then off again..... It just seemed that in some stops there wasnt enough time to enjoy where we were. (i do get that as the distance we needed to cover etc)
Guide: Kaz was fantastic and more than knowledgeable about all the areas, (would it be adviseable to get some short wave radio's or something for to communicate between the riders and Driver, just for fag breaks and general chit chat).
General: It was a fantastic holiday for me and Jo, were serious about coming out to the States again (and not to put you out of buisness or anything were now confident that we can book most of our own tour, but we'd keep in touch with you and Kaz in case theres anything we couldnt do or needed). The company was wonderful and am glad to say we will be keeping in touch with the group with a view to going out to NZ or Aus at somepoint

I could not fault anything, and the staff at the rental shop where very polite and friendly. |

Thanks for arranging the bike, had an awesome time. I made it back in one piece. |

Hey there ken. well us crazy aussies (as we became known) made it back from the states. wow what a trip.
the bike hire went smooth, no real problems with anything. the other chick picked her bike up in reno, they were very helpful there.
I fried my battery in Las Vegas, (f*&^k it was hot), but i rang them, and they had a truck around with a replacement in under 45 mins. can't beat that for service.
In all we clocked up just over 4,000 miles, the roads over there were fabulous. we rode flat out all day long and not a cop in sight. got to love that. On one stage, we did two whole days without a straight peice of road. that's what i call biker heaven.
Once again, thanks for the service and help with everything.
I will be needing a bike over there next year too. sturgis via alaska.... |

"We are back and must say it was the best road trip that i have been on, everything was ace!"
Accommodation: First rate ,what could be said ?
Route: The roads were the best, the road map was ok, we did not get lost
General: This trip was so good i would seriously think about getting on another West Forever tour, thank you Ken..
It was an amazing trip thank you for your help. |
| John Addink, Kalgoorlie - Western Australia |
Sad for the holiday to end but also glad to be back home, Yes we did have a great time especially the part covered by your team.
Rentals:The rental bikes were good, mile high were helpful in the way they did their part. the only thing that may need to be stressed is the amount that they "hold" for security on the credit card ($2,000) at the time my card wasn't set for that amount.
Accommodation was of reasonable quality, rooms were clean and tidy and the hotels/motels were easy enough to locate. What more is there?
The routes you set up for us were no doubt spectacular. Each day, each bend or hill brought something new to our senses. The road book, as long as we read it properly, was set up well.
Any changes, for myself personally it was an experience that will stay with me for a long time so I wouldn't change a thing. As we were a small group and all knew each other (Wayne fitted right in) it put a different slant on the trip whereas a larger group with a guide and completely different dynamic set up may have had a different out come?
Thanks once again for setting up this sort of trip and would recommend you to any one thinking about doing the same as we did. |
|
| Wayne Fanderlinden, Western Australia |
I had the absolute best holiday.
The 3 guys from Kalgoorlie (Doug, Dave and John) were great to travel with and my roommate John and I got on really well with no problems whatsoever. Everyday was an adventure and it was an absolute pleasure to get on the bike each morning and head off to whereever.
The people in the US were so friendly everywhere we went and some of the best days were along the backroads and through the small towns, that many Aussie tourists would never get to see. The little Cafes and Saloons were great for a meal and a beer and we were always made to feel most welcome by the locals.
Sturgis was unbelieveable. Something like 400,000 bikes on every road in and out of the place, all day and into each night, all roads were like freeway traffic (but moving well) with about 95% Harleys. Lots of V8 Choppers, trikes and all sorts of wonderful characters on and off the road. The place shook all day with the thunder of the bikes.
Your route sheets took us through some fantastic country, way up in the mountains amongst the snow was a highlight. My Fatboy was a 2008 with only a few miles on the clock, and a dream to ride. I will definitely do this again (I have started saving aleady!!).
I think Route 66 would be the go next time.
Thank you very much for arranging the trip of a lifetime. It will stay with me always. |
