Hahndorf
's first settlement took place in 1839 when Prussian Lutheran families arrived. The name "Hahndorf" was derived from Captain Dirk Hahn of the ship named 'Zebra', which arrived in Adelaide in 1838 with a party of immigrants from the Eastern Provinces of Prussia.
* Optional Ride in the country side

15/4/08

Hahndorf - Port Augusta
Vineyards of the Claire Valley are the premier business in this semi desert. Port Augusta's unique geographic position sees it as a major service centre for travellers and freight trucks crossing the Nullarbor. In many respects Port Augusta is also the entrance of the southern gateway to the Northern Territory.

16/4/08

Port Augusta - Coober Peedy
We enter the Outback! Journey a long section of straight road which ends at Coober Peedy, Opal capital of the world. Nearly half of the population lives in inexpensive underground homes called "dugouts". It therefore makes the Aboriginal name for Coober Peedy "White man’s burrow" particularly apt.

Ayers Rock - Erldunda via Kings Canyon
A long road awaits you today to convey you to Kings Canyon National Park, one of the Territory's most remarkable natural features.

23/4/08

Alice Springs - Tennant Creek
We are now in the Northern Territory. This evening we stay in a motel where the owner is a HOG member, and you can imagine the welcoming reception! Tonight it’s dinner with the local motorbike bike club.

25/4/08

Mount Isa - Karumba
Another long stretch today, which is complicated by the dire state of the roads. Destination? Karumba, the end of the end of the end of the world! Here we may see buffalos, wild horses or crocodiles.

After a cool beer at Croydon, we arrive at Mt Surprise, and are still wondering what the surprise…is. Tonight we’ll sleep in ex - Queensland Government rail carriages, the oldest dating back to 1888. Unique and adventurous!

28/4/08

Undarra - Yungaburra
A winding road that joins lush valleys with wild rivers and cascading waterfalls, rainforests and ancient ferns, just beautiful! We spend the evening in one of the oldest hotels on the Tablelands; the Lake Eacham Hotel is still famous for its convivial atmosphere.

THE SPIRIT/THE ESSENCE:

According to the size of the group, there will be 1 or 2 guides in a van escorting the tour to assist with luggage and technical support.
We try to select the best hotel of each area visited. Some are exceptional; however there is not always a choice. Lost in the outback, some hotels are a tad primitive and some concessions might have to be made. Occasionally, the amenities are down the hall, sometimes in another building. This is the charm of the outback. It may happen that in the same motel, the rooms are unequally comfortable. The guide will allocate the room with fairness. You will be asked not to challenge this decision. However, the rooms are always clean and the reception is very friendly. On this journey, more than others, a team spirit is essential to the success of the tour.

This trip is for experienced riders ONLY.
You need to be in excellent condition as much physically as mentally.

An adventurer’s mentality and a capacity of adaptation to all conditions is essential (extreme climate, basic accommodation in some areas, isolation) if you want to join us in the longest Harley-Davidson® expedition in the world. We promise to all of you that are up to it, to live the experience of a lifetime
